Ishmeet Singh, the budding singer of India left for his heavenly abode today as he drowned in the swimming pool of a resort in Maldives where he had reached to participate in a show. He was recognised as the winner of Voice of India..

IN THE holy day of last ‘Gurupurab’, he was crowned with the honour of being the star performer of the voice of India. But we can’t hold him for long as the sharp claws of death has snatched him away from all of us on July 29. Ishmeet Singh, the budding singer of India left for his heavenly abode, as he drowned in the swimming pool of a resort in Maldives where he had reached to participate in a show. Fans of Singh, throughout the world deeply mourned after hearing the shocking news of their favourite singer’s death.

Singh belonged to a humble middle class conservative family of Ludhiana. Born in 1989, he was the youngest of the two heirs of his parents. A keen interest in music grew in him at his very childhood days as his father was also a great singer. While he was in ninth standard, one of his teachers, Kaul advised him that if he would take up music as the bird’s eye of his life, he would certainly go a long way in his life. Possibly, Singh was also waiting for such an impressive support from one of his closer persons. Leaving all the education aside, just from then, he plunged in the sea of music.

Hearing about the Voice of India contest through television, he decided to take part in the competition. Though he had faced lots of obstacle from his family members at the very onset, he overcame all hindrances and finally with his will indomitable power, he appeared for the Delhi audition. His parents had said that Singh had a phobia about stage performance during his childhood days. But Singh managed to overcame that fear and performed boldly in front of a huge gathering.

Amidst the 1000 contestants, who came to Delhi from different corners of the country to participate in the melody contest, only a handful of 39 members were selected among which Singh was a part. His mellifluous voice assisted him to remain the re-final selection of two, who appeared in the grand finale on November-2007. At a young age of twenty Singh was declared the best performer of this melody-contest. He could not hold his tears then. The greatest honour of this programme was delivered to him by the legendary musical figure – Lata Mangeshkar. While being awarded for such an outstanding performance, he announced with pride, "I’ll sing one day with AR Rehman", which still sounds alive in the ears of his fans.

Apart from Shaan, Singh was also great a admirer of music hero - Rehman.

It was his long cherished goal to sing with Rehman, which could never be fulfilled yet. Apart from that, he also loved to listen the immortal songs of Md Rafi and Sonu Nigam.

Ishmeet is no more; but his voice and his melody will certainly help his fans to recall his memory though to reminisce his short journey of life (1989-2008) is really painful enough. Leaving all the hustle of everyday human-life, Singh is now sleeping on the lap of the Almighty, from which he will never wake up and hold the mouthpiece again. May God bless his soul!
