PETROL FROM ORGANIC WASTE:
Waste created by the nature, humans, and domesticated animals are being utilized in various ways in many countries. Land-filling, burning in stoves or in barns, composting, methane collection, ethanol production are some of the notable uses currently available in various advanced countries. If someone says that the garbage collected from the municipalities, or any other organic wastes are in a position to be the raw materials for producing petroleum, it may sound exciting to some people and may as well sound dull to the others. But regardless of it, one thing must be studied and confirmed that how much investment would be needed to produce how much petroleum and what affect it would have on the environment, in the society, and in the consumer & commercial market locally and globally.
Canada produces oil from sand. Cox's Bazaar sand has uranium but it can not go to production because of being its unfeasibility. Only after oil becoming expensive, Canada is boosting the sand oil production. It was not very cost-effective before. Organic waste can produce energy in the form of gas (methane) or oil (cellulosing, etc.) after going through a rigorous process that will demand other form of energy to be utilized; such as electricity or other forms of fuel to burn or to produce heat. Besides the base cost to setup plants and employ humans, the operating cost of energy, transports, running the plants, selling, interest of the investments, payback loans, depreciation, system loss, expected profit, overheads, etc. must be counted against the expected revenues and earnings from the products manufactured. Most importantly, the pollution in the environment, whether this would be helping or harming the environment in the short run and in long run, shall be correctly ascertained. The detailed research and feasibility study on all factors shall be done very rigorously before starting a new industry.
The politicians are very vibrant all over the globe for the renewable energy. Though it is good for environment and reduction in the demand of major energy sources such as oil, coal, electricity, gas etc.; the amount of renewable energy that the globe can produce is still just a drop in the bucket, compared to the total demand for the energy worldwide. However, the politicians want to replace all currently available major energy sources with the renewable energy sources. This is nothing but dream and illusion. As far as the energy requirement in this modern era and in future, the humanity needs practical planning and thinking to harvest it from the sustainable source(s). Renewable source such as wind, sun, wave, ethanol, bio-fuel are not the real answer. Needs two things to be made sure in this line of thought; (1) environment is not more polluted, and (2) Production is enough by quantity as per demand, economically viable, and the source is sustainable. These factors influence us to think about two vital sources, (1) Water and (2) Nuclear. These two sources do not pollute environment and produce electricity in bulk. Installing fully functional and optimally networked national grids in every country of the world; using electricity as the base energy; human being of the entire world can sustain in the present time and for all foreseeable future times; in order to be very conveniently running all systems such as cars, homes, offices, factories, transportation industries, communication infrastructures, farms, and all other modern amenities.
Internal combustion engine that has only 40% to 50% efficiency and is the monster for environmental pollution must be replaced by the electric motor that has 90% to 95% efficiency and is quite clean to the environment. Just think about a tank of petrol in a car which we can only burn less than half of the tank to produce real energy in the internal combustion engine of the car, and more than half of the tank is discharged in the environment without burning and producing any energy. This pollutes the environment and creates smug in the cities where lots of cars run. Using electricity as the base energy source that can be conveniently produced from the ever sustainable sources like water and nuclear plants, distributing through national grids to all consumers for energy; totally abolishing the fossil fuels, or converting into cleaner forms such as clean coal; and replacing all internal combustion engines with the electric motors; is a realistic approach by which energy sustainability, clean environment, global warming reduction, ozone layer depletion reduction, and modernization of all societies possible worldwide. I have no idea of any other alternatives to it.
Petroleum may not remain as the viable source of energy in near future (in may be 30 to 50 years), and all engines and systems using petroleum may soon be transferred into electric systems. In that situation, producing petroleum from the organic waste, even though sounds very exciting, may not be seen as a potential energy source. Thanks.

Bangladesh scientists produce petroleum from organic wastes DHAKA: Scientists in Bangladesh have developed ways to produce petroleum from degradable organic municipal waste and are now studying its feasibility before going to commercial production.
"We have developed petroleum products from organic municipal wastes and we are looking into its commercial viability," Yunus Miah, principal engineer of the state-run Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR), said Wednesday. Miah said the scientists were using husk of paddy and oil seeds besides wastes. First they decompose the garbage and produce bio-oil from these wastes. Then they upgrade the bio-oil to petroleum products. "We will have to have an economic analysis of the finding before going to commercial production," he said.
Dhaka daily produces around 15,000 tonnes garbage and the cost of collecting it is only nominal, he said, adding that there are still obstructions, poverty being the most important of them, in the way ot taking technology to the field.
Miah said: "We as a poor country will face many difficulties to go into commercial production," he added. "If the cost of producing the petroleum products is at break-even point, we will be the gainer," said Naimul Haque, chief scientific officer at the BCSIR that falls under the science and information ministry of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh imports most petroleum products, about 3.7 million tonnes annually. The country has limited coal and natural gas reserve. Its gas supply is short of demand while the coal mines are largely undeveloped.
